  1. Oregon is a beautiful place. I lived in Ashland for a few years, in a house that it was claimed the Indians had attacked during the Rogue River War. I investigated the matter and was not wholly convinced, but I chose to believe it.

This was in the late ’90s, when people like ourselves who had sold into the high California real estate market were drifting up into Oregon, where prices were so much lower, and we saw rampaging gentrification all around us.

I loved the small town antique shops, which in those days felt not at all picked over and were rife with Indian artifacts.

And being in Ashland we of course went to the Shakespeare Festival.

I have nice memories of that part of Oregon.

  2. Thanks for your comments, DEK! The weekend got away from me before I could reply. Ashland is lovely– I have family there, too, though I don’t get there as often as I’d like.

House histories are intriguing– who might have lived there, who might have attacked. It’s almost a form of haunting, even if you don’t believe in ghosts.

    Cheers!
